After all you do to get that perfect ride, it's easy to get complacent about keeping it running smoothly. But unless you want to start over at the top with a new one too soon - and most people don't have that kind of financial situations going on - you want your transport mode to last as long as possible.
First, don't delay the routine maintenance. Oil checks, fluid checks, windshield wiper replacement, tire checks, get it all and get it on time. You don't want to put undue wear and tear on your engine, and a clean system is a happy system.
If the unfortunate happens and something does start acting weird (rattle, clank, thunk, wiggle, jiggle, thud, wobble) find out what's wrong and get it fixed. A minor issue can turn into a major one if it's ignored, and it's no fun waiting for your baby to get fixed. If you're the do-it-yourself type and need resources, check out cars.com for great info on how to do everything from basic maintenance to actual repairs.
Don't neglect your body and undercarriage. I know, that sounds like TMI, but I mean the vehicle, not anything inappropriate. Roads are dirty, nasty things, especially in bad weather, and things used to make the roads safer, like salt, can do evil things to your panels and underside if you don't keep them clean. Does snow buildup cool car performance? You betcha. Check the link if you don't believe me.
Little known hint - you don't want to let your gas tank get to below a quarter tank. It causes stress to the engine, and while it's not an immediate danger, over time, it can limit the life of your vehicular relationship. And nobody wants that.
