Giveaway: Win a Pair of Comfy OOFOs, Hosted by Kupana Wahine's Corner!

kupana wahines corner disclaimer

Here in Hawaii we wear flip flops (Hawaiian tidbit: Flip Flops here are called "slippahs" this is what they are called by everyone) year round! I was excited when I received my pair of OOFOs to review and share my thoughts and opinions on our 2016 Holiday Gift Guide with you all.

Ever wonder what it would feel like to have a cloud surrounding your feet? THAT my readers is exactly what a pair of OOFOs will make your feet feel! I have NEVER put on a pair of shoes on my feet that will ever compare to OOFOs!! And I do not think I EVER will! I got to bless my feet with a pair of their Women's OOriginal Sandal in the color Fuchsia (because I love the color Pink)

They are made with their own "OOfoam" which is designed to absorb the impact of walking or even standing. They cradle your arches (and with arches like I have is something my feet needs) all at the same time lets you move naturally with tons of support. I LOVE these shoes! They make my feet ecstatically happy! I can not think of not one change that I would make to these shoes. Not one bad thing I can think about about them except I need more because they are available in 13 great colors. Here are the other colors they offer:
  • Aqua
  • Bermuda Blue
  • Black
  • Cranberry
  • Forrest Green
  • Lilac
  • Mocha
  • Navy
  • Periwrinkle
  • Seafoam
They have a color for all your favorites. Or at least one to match every outfit in your closet! They also have other styles other then the style I chose.
  • OOahh Sport Slide Sandal
  • OOriginal Sport Sandal
  • OOcloog Clog
  • OOcloog Luxe Clog
  • OOlala Sandal
  • OOlala Slide Sandal
  • OOahh Slide Sandal

They have a shoe to match anyone's style. They range from $44.95 to $59.95. Normally I would be way to cheap to spend this kind of money on one pair of shoes HOWEVER after putting them on my feet and wearing them around I WOULD pay this kind of money for OOFOs! I have NEVER worn a pair of shoes in all of my 42 years that is this comfortable for my flat arched feet! They are the most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever owned and probably will ever own! And just when you thought they were already a great company to buy from because they offer so many various styles and colors it gets better.

oofos project pink

OOFOs offer a line of shoes called Project Pink. When you purchase from this line, $10 of every pair that you buy will be donated to breast cancer research. What a reason to go ahead and buy a few pairs!

oofo project pink

They have this style in Fuchsia and Black (this one has a pink ribbon on it). So even if you are not the girly girl type and does not wear or like the color Pink you can still support Project Pink by purchasing the Black pair! The Project Pink line also has multiple styles to offer as well. They also come in several Men's Styles.

men oofo

Husband also LOVES his OOFOS! He has the Men's Original OOFOs in Black.
mens original oofo
This is what he says about his "I love these shoes. I have NEVER owned such a comfortable pair of shoes in my life!" I can not rave enough about OOFOs! I am in so in love with these shoes. I will never go back to any other flip flop aka in Hawaii slippah ever again. They have clouded their way into my heart. In fact I will be extremely sad when I go back to my culinary classes in January and have to wear regular shoes every day and it will only give me after school and weekends for my feet to enjoy my OOFOs.

OOFOS

WAIT...they have other styles like the clog that I might be able to wear..hmm..I guess I will be purchasing me another pair of OOFO's for school!! Until then I know my feet will be comfortable as walk over 10K steps daily around campus this semester. These shoes will make a GREAT Holiday Gift for any person on your list! BUT make sure when crossing those special people off your list buy purchasing them the best pair of shoes they will ever own, do not forget about your self because after all the OOfoam will keep your feet comfortable and happy when out doing the rest of your holiday shopping. HAPPY FEET, HAPPY SHOPPER!

both oofo

Oh and one last thing... they even make them for Men as well.

You Don't Have to Yell Back: Check It Before You Flame It.

I know, I know, this has been covered many times. It's a common idea, to post a list of dos and don't on internet etiquette, and manners, and all sorts of happy horse pucky. Because that's what it is. Horse pucky.

Etiquette? Really?

Etiquette implies that there's a pre-established set of rules that everyone knows about, but actively chooses to disregard. While there is a faction of folks like that, and we all know them as the lowly troll, I personally think they're in the minority. What makes up the rest of the group is:

1. The willfully ignorant. They have a good idea that what they're doing is not cool, but they don't really care. So they pull a Cartman, saying "Screw you guys, I do what I want". People attack them, and they fire back, feeling fully justified. You know the type. "I just speak my mind. I'm just honest and upfront. I don't sugercoat things." There is a difference between being honest and upfront and being a jerk, but they never learned it.

2. The actually ignorant. Lacking in social skills, they can't understand why every time they post, someone jumps all over them, and they are reactive rather than attempting to figure it out.

3. As I just found out today, language barriers. Even if you're speaking English to another person who's speaking English, you can take something completely out of context, and you may not even be wrong.

I know what you think I mean...things like "I couldn't tell he was being sarcastic." While that is something else to consider, this isn't what I'm getting at in this example. I consider that to be common sense, and not worthy of note. I know, common sense isn't common, blah blah blah....we'll get to that later on.

Here's what I mean. How a Brit words something could be taken as judgemental by an American, because they structure things differently in their phrasing. So that person you thought was being passive-aggressive could just be British. Seriously. I had this conversation. We all understand that there are terms that mean different things to Americans, but apparently what we consider a passive-aggressive dig in their case can simply be a declarative sentence.

Recognize the common factor here? An hint: it's not about them. It's about you.

People react to these folks as if they were the aforementioned troll. They respond in kind, because they have no idea why they're under fire, and drama ensues where it isn't necessary. So what's the solution?

Simple. Look for clarification. Ask them to further explain their position. Simply lurk and see what happens. In short, take a minute before you jump all over someone because you THINK you know what they're saying. Know what I'm sayin'? Clarity, my friend. It can save lives. Okay, maybe not, but it could lower blood pressures all over the internet, which is a nice thought. And if it turns out to be an actual troll, well...don't feed them.

Win a Brilliance Promise Ring Set, RV up to $1,000, via Dorky's Deals! (Closed by Sponsor's Request.)

UPDATE: The sponsor is no longer running this giveaway.

When it comes to jewelry, there's winner and losers, but something special, like a promise ring, has to be a winner. And call me crazy, but this one is just gorgeous. And as for a winner, you can be one, and win a set for your very own!
Brilliance Promise Ring Set Giveaway
Sponsor: Brilliance
Prize: Set of Promise Rings (up to $1000 RV)

Brilliance, a leading diamond retailer, has a true passion for creating high-quality jewelry and providing top-notch customer service. Their expert gemologists handpick only the highest quality diamonds. Each piece is then crafted by artisans right here in the USA.

Shopping directly from Brilliance, as opposed to a jewelry store, cuts out the middleman. You are shopping from the very people who design and create the jewelry, not just those who put a price tag on it and sell it. This direct to consumer shopping experience is not only more transparent, but also saves you money by cutting out the middleman.

Brilliance offers a wide range of diamond jewelry, including stunning engagement rings, wedding rings, and promise rings. Promise rings are given as an expression of a promise two people have made with one another. While this could mean a promise of future marriage, it could also symbolize a promise of never-ending-love or of trust and companionship.
Enter below for a chance to win a set of promise rings from Brilliance. One lucky winner can select the set of promise rings of their choice worth up to $1000.

This giveaway is open to US residents, ages 18+, only and ends 10/31/16 at 11:59 PM EST.

Primary Science Shining Stars Projector: A Portable Universe in Toy Form!

I love it when learning toys come in cheerful interfaces that inspire imagination. A perfect example is the Primary Science Shining Stars Projector.

It has a wonderful combination of tech fun with a retro design that is extremely kid-friendly and brings back memories from my own childhood. It's smooth, lightweight, and easy to carry.

Speaking of the design, it's very simple. You insert the disc in the front slot and push the button. It can sit on its base and act as a projector, or it can be picked up and moved around like a camera. My kids preferred the latter.

Because of that preference, we had ample opportunity to test the durability of the Projector, and I can attest that it handles being dropped on hard surfaces well.  I wouldn't use it as a hammer or anything, but it'll hold up to playtime nicely. The images are varied and keep things interesting, and it works in dim light, as well as darkness. If your kids are like mine and leave things on until the batteries die, never fear...it has an automatic shut-off. That means if they want to take it to bed with them (and that is quite probable), there's no need to check back in on it. Just be warned that the actual sleep part might take a bit longer than usual.

Want to see it in action? Here's a quick peek!

You can find this fun item here, and on other online retailers. It does require three AAA batteries, not included.

I received a free product for review purposes. My opinions and creative kids are my own.

Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Muffin Mix: Lose the Gluten, Keep The Nom!

So I'm a fan of both natural products and baked goods. Like, seriously. So when Moms Meet gave me the chance to try out Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Muffin Mix, I was excited about getting the best of both worlds.

First, let me just say this is a super easy mix to put together. You can add anything you want to it, and it mixes up in minutes.  Caveat: it does have a sweeter flavor, so that's the best way to go. So I got into creative mode. I started with a staple, and easy way to use up overripe bananas.

Sweet, tender, and flavorful, these were a huge, immediate hit. So time for another standard, blueberry.

I used frozen berries, and found that it increased baking time, but there weren't any other issues. So I decided to up my game and go for a cinnamon streusel. This was my personal favorite..I really felt the cinnamon flavor melded beautifully with the mix.

Simple process there...mix up a basic streusel, pour part of the batter in the cups, sprinkle some in, more batter, then a coating on top. Delicious.

The instructions say that you can use either oil or butter in the process. I tried both, and had great results each time. There wasn't a textural difference that I could discern, but I did get a slightly richer flavor using butter. It worked well with margarine as well, and with a dairy-free butter substitute, so it's pretty diverse. That's a plus, as the mix itself doesn't contain dairy, and is RS-ELISA gluten tested, which makes it very allergen-friendly.

Oh, and they taste AWESOME. No joke. Even my pickiest kid begged for more. They're sweet, but not overpowering, and work well with so many flavors. I went on to try chocolate chip and strawberry, and they were also a hit. The ease of the mix makes it a simple thing to whip up fresh homemade muffins on a whim. You gotta try these.

Canned Carrots and Baked Goods: It Can Happen.

We like to stock up for emergencies, everything from water to canned food.. In the process, we discovered two things.

1. Nobody in our house likes canned carrots.
2. Canned goods expire faster than you think.

I found myself with eight cans of carrots nearing that not-so-fresh feeling, and no takers. What to do.

Well, first, I pureed all of them, and drained it in cheesecloth, ending up with a texture similar to pumpkin.

I searched for recipes using cooked carrots, and found one for cookies, but that was it. I had already made that recipe, and wanted something new. After pondering, I figured it would be a fun experiment to swap it into a pumpkin bread recipe and see what happened. Carrot bread totally happened, a spiced, sweet taste treat.

Curious? Here's the recipe.

2 cups sugar
1 cups canola oil
4 eggs
2 cups carrot puree
3/4 cup water
3 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. table salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

1. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease loaf pans with butter or non-stick spray.
2. Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, beat sugar and oil together until blended. Add eggs one at a time mixing after each addition. Add carrot puree and water and mix until blended.
3. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and allspice. Add to the mixer and mix only until just incorporated. Pour batter into prepared pans.
4. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes. The loaves are done when center springs back when touched.
Not bad, eh? But I still had a lot left, so I got more creative, and we have carrot bars. Sort of like a cross between cake and pie, with a tender texture and cinnamon-spice flavor.

I added a light vanilla glaze to pep it up a bit, but it's also very good plain. Try it for yourself the next time you find yourself with a plethora of carrots.

Recipe:

2 cups butter, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
2 cups mashed cooked carrots
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoons baking powder
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease a 13" X 9" pan.
2. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and carrots.
3. Blend in flour, baking powder and salt. Pour into pan.
4. Bake until center springs back when touched, 35 - 50 minutes. Cool and frost with vanilla glaze, or just enjoy.

Both were happily enjoyed by my family, particularly the "carrot cake", as my kids called it. I had requests for more, in fact.

So if you find yourself with a whole lot of canned carrots that your family barely gives the side-eye to, sneak them into some delicious baked goodies, and all will be well.

BODYARMOR SuperDrink: Put The Happy Back in Hydration!

I consider sports drinks to be a necessary evil. Necessary, as in the simple fact that my teen and husband need more than water to hydrate, and evil, as in they are often less than enjoyable in the flavor arena. I also worry about the amount of artificial ingredients. Check the label...you'll see what I mean.

But then I was introduced to BODYARMOR SuperDrink, and discovered that hydration time could be happy time.

First off, there's no artificial flavors, sweeteners, or colors. Yet it's still in all sorts of pretty hues. Nature rules!

They accomplish the hydration angle using electrolytes and coconut water, with natural flavors and sweeteners. It's even gluten free and kosher. My eldest, who is CRAZY heat sensitive, enjoyed it both for its sweet, fruity flavors and how it made her feel fabulous.

Sweet and fruity? You bet. I can't stand sports drinks myself, because it always seems to have that slightly salty aftertaste, or it's weakly flavored, or the artificial flavoring is glaringly obvious. I got NONE of that from BODYARMOR SuperDrink. It's good enough that I didn't even want to wait to get overheated to enjoy it. And for me, that is a serious rave. It's available in fruit punch, orange mango, strawberry banana, tropical punch, lemon lime, mixed berry, grape and blackout berry. My personal fave was the blackout berry...it reminds me of a blueberry slush.

For all that sweet, sweet joy, the stats are still decent...only 70 calories for an eight-ounce serving, and 18 grams of carbs.

Hit your level of want? You can find it at Wegman's and Target. Get a coupon here: www.drinkbodyarmor.com/coupons

Not Just Another Cheesy Gift: Well, Maybe a Little.

Okay, so, we love cheese in my house. While we have a wide range of appreciation for the cheese itself, our tools for cutting the cheese (Snicker...sorry.) were less upscale. But guess what? There's this.

The cutting board, that's mine, and not included. But the beauty on top is the Laminas 5-Piece Stainless Steel Cheese Knives set, which includes a parmesan knife, spreader, fork, chisel and narrow plane. And yes, you need them to cut cheese. It makes it so much easier for all kinds of cheeses, from soft to hard. (Snicker. Sorry again.) You know how you never realize how much you needed something until you get it? That's the deal with cheese knives.

Pictured: a firm cheddar and a softer colby jack, both neatly cut. And as you see, the tools are attractive enough to leave out for active use, and have well-made, sharp blades. They're nice and sturdy...the handles have a nice weight to them, and feel great in the hand. These would make an excellent housewarming gift, especially paired with a nice bottle of wine.

Springtime Play: Free, But Priceless!

There's a lot of pressure these days on parents, and a big factor is keeping kids entertained. When you're on a budget, you can't just trot off to an amusement park or party center. The good news? You don't need to do that to make kids happy, especially after winter finally drops its icy hold on your neighborhood.
Rediscover the joys of a simple trip to a local playground. My kids love a video game binge (and I admit to my shame that in the winter, that can be standard), but if I mention a trip to the park, it's as if said games didn't exist. If the sun is shining, they want to be in it, and the energy is spectacular.
It's the ideal time to meet new kids in our neighborhood, and reconnect. My son says it's so nice to get to be around so many kids, instead of just his little sister. She'd probably take offense at that, but I won't tell her.

I myself enjoy the fresh air, and watching them run around with wide grins and hearing shouts of "Mom, look at me!". A nice side effect is that they usually go to bed without argument after all that running, and sleep very well, which is a treat for any Mom.
And all you need to do to get it is open your front door and step out into the sun. Nothing out of pocket, but the memories, fun, antics and enjoyment are beyond measure.

The Catit Bench Scratcher: A Cardboard Kitty Couch!

So I got the opportunity to test out the Catit Bench Scratcher though chewy.com. It's a corrugated cardboard bench style cat scratcher device, and includes catnip to convince kitty to give it a whirl. Did my cat go for it? Well, yes.

He started out using it as a perch, but then discovered how much fun it was to dig in his claws and go at it. You will get bits of cardboard falling off in the process, but it holds up surprisingly well, and Dagger here really can scratch. Since the introduction of his new "throne", there has been no scratching elsewhere, which is a huge relief. Nice, eh? Oh, and he finds it a comfy bed, too.

So it may be cardboard, but it is still mighty. Interested? You can find it HERE.

I received a product for review purposes. My opinions and silly cat are my own.
